Subject teaching

   ​Subject-based education covers the second cycle of primary education, from the fifth to the eighth grade. During this period, students expand the knowledge acquired in classroom instruction and gradually become familiar with the content of various scientific, linguistic, artistic and practical fields. Primary education in Serbia is organized into two cycles of four years each, and teaching and learning plans and programs are determined for individual grades and subjects.

   Teaching is carried out by subject teachers, who guide students towards a deeper understanding of the course content, connecting knowledge from different fields and applying it in everyday situations. Special attention is paid to the development of logical and critical thinking, communication, independent learning, research work and a responsible attitude towards school obligations.

   The transition to subject-based teaching is an important stage in students' education. They encounter a larger number of teachers and subjects, more complex tasks, and new forms of work, which is why support, good organization, and the gradual development of work habits are especially important for them.

   Through regular classes, additional and supplementary support, sections, competitions, projects and other school activities, students have the opportunity to identify their interests, develop their abilities and prepare for further education. The current teaching and learning programs are focused on educational outcomes and the development of student competencies.
